Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. In his life he did many things. He helped head the SCLC. He created the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He also created the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In 1964 King received the Nobel Peace Prize. Martin Luther King Jr. helped plan the citywide bus boycott after the Rosa Parks arrest. This caused the city of Montgomery to lift the law mandating segregated public transportation. While protesting he encouraged African American's to use nonviolent methods. He helped organize the March on Washington that drew more than 200,000 people. He also helped organize the march in Selma, Alabama which resulted in what is now known as "Bloody Sunday". He expanded the Civil Rights movement into larger American cities including Chicago and Los Angeles. He has become the most widely known African-American leader of his era.
